It was only a matter of time before Icebox.com would announce the inevitable shut down of operations. One of the first sites to gain massive popularity, not only as a forum for animated shorts, but as a launch pad for content reaching offline viewers. This shutdown is just one in a series, perhaps the most surprising, of online entertainment portals to close shop. Icebox.com was one of the biggest and begs the question, what now? Where will all of this very genre specific content go?

Icebox was hoping to pick up 10 million in funding that just never materialized. Despite popularity of Web series like Zombie College, Mr. Wong, Queer Duck and many other sometimes controversial always current shorts the company was forced to cease operations. CEO and co-founder Steve Stanford has said that he was hoping to sell the company whole and not file for bankruptcy. For fans of Icebox, one of the frontiers of online entertainment, there will be a void on their monitors and a pang in their hearts when they log on to Icebox.com and instead of being greeted by Dirty Dog they are reminded that all good things must come to an end.
