Heath Ledger Died From 'Acute Intoxication'

LOS ANGELES (Zap2it.com) - After Heath Ledger's toxicology report was delayed for half a day, the results are finally out: he died from an overdose of a mix of prescription drugs.

"Mr. Heath Ledger died as the result of acute intoxication by the combined effects of oxycodone, hydrocodone, diazepam, temazepam, alprazolam and doxylamine," said New York City medical examiner spokesperson Ellen Borakove in a statement Wednesday morning (Feb. 6).

The drugs indicated are the generic names for the painkiller OxyContin, painkiller Vicodin, anti-anxiety drug Valium, sleep aid Restoril, anti-anxiety medication Xanax and sleep aid Unisom, respectively.

"What you're looking at here is the cumulative effects of these medications together," added Borakove.

Ledger, 28, was found dead in his Manhattan apartment two weeks ago on Jan. 22 by a masseuse who had an appointment with the Oscar-nominated actor. A funeral is expected to take place in his hometown of Perth, Australia on Saturday.
